Olivier CalmeilleFr | En Passed from hand to hand, instruments go through the centuries with their scratches telling us their history. Restoration attempts to repair instruments to near original condition, thereby giving them a new lease of life. Violoncello, Anonyme, c.19th century In association with Marion Feuvrais, this cello is minutely repaired giving it a new breath, by improving its acoustic capacities and its playing. Partially transformed into 'baroque', this instrument presented a long crack along a previous repair of the back. To restore the acoustic function of the back, we decided to take off the former repair, and after a plaster, the restoration of this crack is glued again and strengthened. Some fractures were strengthened on the table and ribs. The holes of pegbox (too consequent) were bushed to adjust new pegs allowing a better precision in the tuning of the instrument.
